Biloxi

Godfred "Fred" Hennig III, age 75, of Biloxi, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025.

Born on January 27, 1950, to Godfred Hennig Jr. and Dorothy (Hennig) Bergeron, he spent his childhood on Point Cadet. At Biloxi High School, Fred set records for running track. Although he received many track scholarships, he decided to forego athletics while attending the University of Mississippi. At Ole Miss, he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi, where he served as Treasurer and President. He later graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Banking and Finance.

As a young adult Fred discovered a love for sailing when a friend took him on a sailboat in Biscayne Bay, and he began crewing in local sailboat races. He eventually earned a United States Coast Guard (USCG) 1600-ton auxiliary sail license, upon oceans.

He met his wife, Holly (Lewis) Hennig, in 1980 and they married two years later. They enjoyed many special Caribbean trips together, chartering sailboats and island hopping. Their daughter, Sarah was born in 1986.

Over the years, Fred held many different occupations, including banking, information technology, computer programming, working as deckhand at the Broadwater Marina, dealing Blackjack at the Broadwater Casino, teaching classes for USCG license preparation, and making yacht deliveries. He completed his career in the Cost Accounting department at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula in 2001.

After retirement, Fred enjoyed beachcombing and taking trips to see his daughter, Sarah, in Virginia. He was a lifetime member of Biloxi Yacht Club, where he made many close friends.

Fred is survived by his wife, Holly Hennig; his daughter, Sarah (Allen) Kang; two grandchildren, Emilia Kang and William Kang; and his sister, Cheryl Hennig (Mark Olsen).

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Fred’s family on Tuesday, August 26, between 2:00pm and 4:00pm, at the Ocean Springs Yacht Club.
