Greg Dean, age 73, of Gulfport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025. A transplant from the Windy City, Greg was a longtime resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was more than just a familiar face- he was a steady presence, a devoted husband, a proud father, and a deeply loved grandfather.
He graduated from Niles North High School and the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, but his real education came from a life well-lived. Greg was a member of Nugent Methodist Church.
Greg had a knack for making people laugh—whether it was showing up to work in a tie that looked like it escaped from a circus, or sneaking rubber snakes into the fridge just to hear someone scream. He had a soft spot for classic rock, and if you ever heard Pink Floyd echoing down the hall, you knew Greg was in his happy place. His humor was never mean-spirited—just the kind that made you roll your eyes and laugh anyway.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Theron and Oleta Dean, whose values he carried forward with grace. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Elaine Dean, who was his partner in every sense of the word. He leaves behind his children—Monica (Chuck), Valerie, and Brian (April). His grandchildren—Katlyn, Kayla, Jon Wesley, Peyton, Kade, and Dylan—were the light of his life.
Visitation will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on O’Neal Road in Gulfport on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, with a brief service to follow at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local Humane Society or animal shelter—an echo of Greg’s lifelong compassion for all living things.
