Horace Edward Cruthirds, 78, of Saucier, Mississippi, passed away on May 7, 2026.
Born in Gulfport, Mississippi, Horace spent his life along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and eventually made his home in Saucier, where he enjoyed the peace and quiet of the land he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Cruthirds; his sons, Eddie Cruthirds and Chris Cruthirds; his granddaughter, Nicole Cruthirds; and his grandsons, Bradley Cruthirds and Brandon Cruthirds.
He was preceded in death by his father, Woodford Dudley Cruthirds; his mother, Clara Jean Asher; his brother, Louis Possien; and his sister, Gloria Rogers.
Horace was raised working on a shrimp boat alongside his beloved stepfather, Louis “Dede” Ryan, where he developed a lifelong love and deep respect for the waters of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the hardworking people who made their lives there.
He later began working at a young age with the Gulfport Fire Department before beginning a long and successful career in sales across many different fields. He had a natural ability to talk with anyone and never met a stranger, a gift that helped him succeed wherever life took him.
Horace eventually finished his career as Director of Maintenance for the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office before retiring to the property he cared for deeply in Saucier.
He was also an avid ham radio operator and enjoyed the friendships and conversations built through the hobby over the years.
In recent years, he courageously battled Myasthenia Gravis.
Horace shared a special bond with his two beloved pets, Cooper and Huey, who brought him comfort and companionship.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
