Ida Shaver, age 88, of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, after a short illness.
Ida was born in Biloxi, MS on June 4, 1938. Ida always celebrated her birthday on June 3rd and thought for many years that was her actual birthday because her mom said to her, “Your birth certificate is wrong, I was there and you were born on June 3rd not June 4th.” Later in life we all celebrated her both days. Ida was a graduate from Gulfport High School in 1956. She was a mother to three, a grandmother and great grandmother. She was a homemaker that also helped in the family business, Tastey Kreem on 25th Avenue in Gulfport, for 12 years. Ida was an avid quilter and was still hand stitching quilts at the age of 87. She made beautiful quilts. She loved spending time each week with her quilting guild and working on new projects.
Ida married Air Force Service member Richard Shaver in 1958. After many moves with the Air Force, they settled in Gulfport after her husband’s retirement to be close to family along the coast. Then spent 20 years in Indiana to spend time with family and help nurture her grandson, Nick. She returned to the Gulf Coast, a place she always considered home 5 years ago. Ida loved spending time with family and friends.
Ida is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Shaver; her parents, Charles and Francis Wells; her sister, Barbara Clemens; her brother, Robert Wells; and her grandson, Brandon Shaver.
Survivors include her three children, Becki Shaver, Lyle (Amy) Shaver, and Diana (Mike) Johnson; 5 grandchildren, Taylor (Braden) Stotler, Nick (Sabrina) Johnson, Eric (Laura) Johnson, Charlotte Shaver and Abby Shaver; and 6 great-grandchildren, Novalee and Gabe Shaver and Silas, Molly, Wyatt, & Addy Johnson.
Special thanks to the St. Joseph’s Hospice Facility center staff and caregivers for their support and excellent care during this time. Also, thank you to her niece, Chris Howard, for her love and support over the years.
Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 1726 15 Street, Gulfport, MS, friends my visit one hour prior to service. Private interment will be at Biloxi National Cemetery.
