Irene “Wootsie” Louise Fortner Fountain, 96, of D’Iberville, MS, left the arms of her loved ones and walked into the arms of her Savior, Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in Biloxi MS. Irene was born April 18, 1920 in Biloxi, MS and was a lifelong resident of D’Iberville, MS. During her life, in addition to being a loving wife and mother of 7 sons, she worked at Southern Shell Factory, Fournier & Sons Seafood, Broadwater Hotel and Howard Memorial Hospital where she worked as a cashier in the cafeteria until she retired.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, George Fountain, Sr.; her parents, Frank and Stella Bennett Fortner; her sons, George, Jr., Willie F. and Alan F. Fountain; her grandson, Jason Fountain; her sisters, Florence Fayard, Ida Saucier, Helen Lepoma and Mildred Penny; and her brothers, Henry, James, William and Robert Fortner.
She left a lasting and loving impression on her family and all who knew her. Her loving memories will forever remain in the hearts of her family that she left behind. Irene is survived by her sons, Lonnie, Sr. (Eva), David, Sr., Carey and Colin (Lisa) all of D’Iberville, MS; her daughter-in-law, Roberta Fountain of Fountain, FL; her sister-in-law, Doris Fortner of Biloxi, MS; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Friends may visit from 1:00 pm until service time. After the services, she will be laid to rest at D’Iberville Memorial Park, next to her husband.
Pall bears will be her grandsons, Lonnie Fountain, Jr., Troy Fountain, David Fountain, Jr. and her great-grandsons, Lonnie Fountain, III, Jordan Fountain, Jonathan Fountain and T.J. Fountain.
