“I’m not giving up!!!” These are the words of James R. “Jimmy” Byrne, Jr. that will ever ring in the minds of his family and friends who knew him best. Words of inspiration to “Live by”.
Jimmy was born on October 29, 1960 in Biloxi, Mississippi and went home to be with our Lord on April 17, 2016 after a long near four year battle with cancer.
Jimmy was always full of life even after his diagnosis of cancer. He loved the outdoors, boating and hunting. As the outdoorsman, he taught what he knew to younger members of his family who to this day would still remember his lessons and the fond memories.
Jimmy’s career in life was varied, having experience with the “Family Business” and learning the painting trade from his father. He also ventured out to see even more of life by working offshore. Through his phases of both career and life, Jimmy always kept his focus on family. Family was very important to Jimmy, and it showed.
Jimmy spent many hours in prayer asking for the needs of others and for God’s strength to carry on for his family. Knowing that eternal life was waiting for him at the end and knowing that he will be reunited with friends and family gave him much comfort during the harder times. His sense of humor and optimism was ever present during these times as well.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his father, James Byrne, Sr.; his mother, Virginia M. Byrne; his sister, Sandra Van Acker Roberts; and his nephew, Gregory James Van Acker.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Byrne; step daughters, Candice Woods (Danny) and Jodi Wilkerson (Adam); step son T.J. Mullins (Jessica); eleven grandchildren; sisters, Stacie Smith (Brandon) and Janice Jackson (Wayne); six nephews; his niece; eight grand-nephews; seven grand-nieces; and his “Brother” and “Sister” at heart, Rex “T-Rex” and Laurie Thibodeaux.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Family and friends may visit one hour prior. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park. Immediately following the graveside service, friends may gather at 2801 Bienville Blvd., Ocean Springs, MS 39565 to celebrate Jimmy’s life.
