James Royal Clayton, Sr., age 72, of Gulfport passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 in Gulfport. He was a native of Meridian and had been a resident of the Gulf Coast since 1973. He retired in 1993 from Keesler Air Force Base Fire Department after 20 years of service. He was employed with Hughes Supply for several years and Biloxi Home Depot for the last ten years. He was a former active Mason in Meridian, and enjoyed fishing, riding motor cycles and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Mr. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; step-father; brother; and grandson, Gregory.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ginger Clayton of Gulfport; two sons, James A. Clayton, Jr. of Gulfport and Jason Clayton (Raegan) of St. Martin; a sister, Patsy Reynolds of Avon, IN; a sister-in-law, Carol Clayton of Dothan, AL; and a brother, Tommy Birdsong (Karen) of Gulfport.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, O’Neal Road, Gulfport. The funeral service is Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Coalville United Methodist Church Cemetery, Biloxi.
