James “Durel” Seymour 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. He was born on August 11,1938 in Biloxi, the first child of Hilton and Janice Seymour who preceded him in death. He lived in Biloxi throughout his childhood along with his twin sisters, Doris Seymour and Darlene Seymour Harvey. He attended Notre Dame high school. He served his country in the National Guard and was a loyal employee of Frank P. Corso where he worked as a salesman. While working at Corso’s he met Ann. The two were married in 1962. Durel and Ann made their home in d’Iberville where they began their life together. The couple would go on to have three children: Dana (Lance) Trochessett, Patti (Guss) Fleming, and Jamie (Michael) Seymour. The family would eventually expand to include 8 grandchildren: Jillian (Alvin) Vallo, Lauren (Stephen) English, Haley (Graham) Peacock, Lance (Ady) Trochessett Jr., Brennan (Clint) Harrell, Brooke (Adam) Terranova, Reese Seymour and Sidney Seymour, and 14 great-grandchildren.
His faith was paramount to Durel. He was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in d’Iberville. Beyond regular Mass attendance, he and Ann were very active parishioners. He volunteered for years as a collection counter, a Bazaar worker, and an altar server.
Durel was dedicated to his family. He enjoyed holiday celebrations and any kind of family gathering. He looked forward to yearly family vacations. Upon retirement, he and his wife Ann enjoyed frequent travels throughout the country, driving from coast to coast and from Canada to Key West. Durel was a Disney fan. Walt Disney World was a favorite destination. He and Ann made many trips to WDW, often with other family members. He was a devoted father and “Paw Paw”, attending every event from birthdays to weddings and recitals to graduations.
Durel was a loyal fan of the New Orleans Saints. In addition to watching professional sports, he enjoyed college and high school sports, along with any sport involving his children or grandchildren.
History interested Durel. He enjoyed exploring historical sites during his travels and attending local air shows. He had an avid interest in classic cars. He enjoyed participating in Cruisin’ the Coast events and collecting automobile memorabilia.
In his later years, Durel’s greatest pleasures came from spending time with his wife, Ann. Whether they were eating lunch at a local restaurant, sitting on the patio watching the birds, or enjoying a favorite TV show, he was content as long as they were together.
Durel will be sorely missed but never forgotten by those who love him and cherish his memory in their hearts.
