Mr. Guest was born in De Soto City, Florida and had been a resident of Gulfport since 2008. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was retired from Westinghouse where he was employed for 45 years. He was a Mason for over 50 years. Mr. Guest was a member of an Honor Flight tour that visited the World War II Monument in Washington, D.C.
He joined the Army Air Forces on December 7, 1942 and served until October 16, 1945. Mr.Guest was a flight engineer on a B-24 bomber and served in the South Pacific for 16 months. His decorations and citations include a Good Conduct medal, Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Philippine Liberation Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal with seven Bronze Stars.
Mr. Guest was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda J. Ryals Guest; his son, James Edward Guest, a brother, William Joseph Guest; two sisters, Mary C. Todd and Martha Ann Guest.
He is survived by two step-daughters, Christa Ryals Bond and her husband Leo of Gulfport and their children, Jake, Joshua, and Jeni; Jennifer O’Barr of Biloxi and her late husband Bobby C., Sr. and her late son, Richard; and a step-son, C. Darwin Ryals, Jr. of Biloxi and his son, C. Darwin Ryals, III.
The funeral service will be on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 10:30 A.M. The United States Air Force will provide military honors at the church. Interment will be Thursday, March 31, 2016 in Lutz Cemetery, Lutz, Florida. The family prefers memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church, 5007 Lawson Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39507.
