Jane Carns

Jane Carns died at peace and surrounded by love February 3, 2005, in Diamondhead. She will be missed by all who knew her, but her spirit lives on in her family and those whose lives she touched. She would have been 89 on February 26, and would have liked to see 90; but she understood better than most that things don't always go according to plan. She is survived by her partner of 14 years, Karl P. Shuart; her sister-in-law Ann Eldridge; two sons, Jim and his wife Karen, and Bill and his wife Kathy; two grandchildren, Carolyn Duregger and her husband Dan, and Dan Carns and his wife Wendi; and three great-grandchildren, Katherine and Ryan Carns, and Dylan Duregger. Karl's three sons, David, Dan and Peter, and daughter Gail Sines and their families had also taken Jane as their own. All will carry her candle forward. Jane lived in Diamondhead for 14 years, and thrived in the grace and hospitality of the South. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and lived in half a dozen different cities while raising a family with her husband William H. Carns, who preceded her in death 23 years ago. Through the years she was active in Kappa Alpha Theta, PEO, her church and many social organizations. She never stopped enjoying life, and never lost her sense of humor. A celebration of Jane's life will take place at the Diamondhead Community Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2005. Flowers are appropriate, if you would like to plant some for her where you can enjoy them. Quality Hospice was very helpful at the end, if you would like to make a donation the address is 999 Howard Avenue, Biloxi, MS 39530. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on 15th Street in Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
