Janet Trueheart Tolson Waterhouse (Jan), age 77, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi passed away Thursday, September 10th at her home in Ocean Springs.
Born in Meridian Mississippi to William Walker and Josephine Moore Tolson, Jan attended Narimasu American High School in Tokyo and graduated from All Saints Episcopal School for Girls in Vicksburg in 1956.
Jan studied at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and was licensed as a Practical Nurse. In 1993 she embarked on a new career in real estate. Jan was BOSAR president in 1997 and awarded Realtor of the Year in 1997. She started working for Caldwell Banker Alfonzo Realty in 1999 and was a Broker Associate there when she retired in June.
Always involved in her community, she was very proud that she served on the board of the Fischer House at Keesler Air Force Base and was honored by the military for her service. Jan was well known in her community and served in many capacities in numerous organizations including Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, Dogwood Garden Club, and Les Marquees, (where she was queen in 1988). Beautification of historical Ocean Springs and promoting the charm of the area were of great interest to Jan who was always a smiling, energetic and gracious ambassador for the city.
An active communicant of St. Johns Episcopal Church, Jan was a past Vestry member, Senior Warden, served as a Verger, served on numerous search committees, worked with outreach programs and participated in the daily life of the Parish. She was long recognized as the chief “Hugger” and greeter of the Church.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband Robert G. Waterhouse, parents Col. William W. Tolson and Josephine Moore Tolson, daughter Jamie Lynne Hall, and brother Jerry Trueheart Tolson.
She is survived by children Missy Hall Garoza, Ocean Springs, MS (Val, NM), Cynthia Elise Hall Mouser, Sylacauga, AL, David William Hall, New Orleans, LA; grandchildren Corey David Ingraham, Kaneohe, HI, Christopher Edward Mouser, Biloxi, MS, Jamie McKinley Cleary, Sylacauga, AL, stepchildren Bob Waterhouse, Panama City, FL, Patrice Jobes, Apex, NC, John Waterhouse, Gulfport, MS step grandchildren Cameron Waterhouse, Orlando, FL, Heather Gonzalez, Austin, TZ.
Services will be at St Johns Episcopal Church on Sunday, September 13 at 2 pm. Ashes will be committed in the Memorial Garden and a celebration of Jan’s life will follow immediately after the service in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. John’s Episcopal Church or the American Cancer Society.
