Janice Oglesby

Janice Oglesby, age 89, of Biloxi, MS passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 in Biloxi. Janice was born in Drew, MS on December 28, 1937 to Milton Curtis Oglesby and Alma Lee Oglesby. When Janice was 1 year old, the family moved to the Lodi Community near Winona, MS.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jerry Oglesby and his wife Brenda and Curtis Oglesby; her special “second mother” Aunt Margie Hoskins; her uncles, Bill Dodd and Henry “Red” Dodd; and her niece, Michelle Scott.

Janice is survived by her sister-in-law, Dee Oglesby; her nephews, Mike (Cathy) and Lee Oglesby; her niece, Jennifer MacCune; her great nieces, Courtney (Andrew) Peak, Kayla (Michael) Smith, Taylor Oglesby and Jessica Scott; her great nephews, Josh (Michelle) Scott and Jacob (Michelle) Scott; and numerous cousins.

Janice graduated as Valedictorian from Alva Consolidated High School in 1954 at the age of 16. She entered the Greenwood Hospital School of Nursing in September of 1954, graduating in September of 1957.

She worked at Greenwood Hospital before moving to Biloxi to work at “New Biloxi Hospital” in July of 1958. She transferred to Singing River Hospital as Relief Hospital supervisor in October of 1959. She went on to work at Keesler Air Force Base Hospital for 44 years. While at KAFB Hospital, she worked in the Oncology Clinic for the last 25 years of her nursing career. She often said those years were the most rewarding of her entire career. She was instrumental in starting a Gulf Coast Chapter of the nationally known Oncology Society, passing the first National Nursing Board testing for the title of Oncology Certified Nurse.

Janice was a member of First Baptist Church of Biloxi for many years, before leaving there to become a charter member of the newly formed Parkway Baptist Church of Biloxi. She enjoyed a close walk through life with her personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and is at home with him now.
