Janie Schaar

Janie (Barnes) Schaar, 85, of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at her home on July 23, 2026. She was born on June 17, 1941, in Illinois to Thomas William Barnes Sr. and Violet Irene Hellberg.

Janie spent 34 years working in the Biloxi casino industry. In her free time, she enjoyed playing tennis, was an early collector of Beanie Babies, and loved playing video and card games with her family. She especially enjoyed the competition and usually came out the winner.

Janie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Gerald Edward Schaar; her daughter, Janel Maxine Schaar Niolet; her son, Jeffrey Prescott Schaar; her parents, Thomas William Barnes Sr. and Violet Irene Hellberg; and her brother, Thomas William Barnes Jr.

She is survived by her son, Jay Schaar; daughter-in-law, Pamela Michele (Sauls) Schaar; and former daughter-in-law, Robyn Spragio Schaar. She leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren, Michael, Justin, Caleb, Kelsey, Lauren, Jake, Brooke, and Richard; and four adored great-grandchildren, Sophia, Levi, McKenna, and Calliope.

Janie will be lovingly remembered by her family and all who knew her.
