Ocean Springs

Janis Chastain, lovingly known as “Ms. Jan” to everyone who knew her, was born on September 28, 1939, at home in Scott County, Tennessee. She passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, conversation, and deep love for her family and friends.

Janis made her home in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, where she built meaningful connections with neighbors and friends alike. She had a true gift for conversation and was happiest spending long hours talking, laughing, and sharing stories with those around her. Everyone she met felt like a friend before long.

She shared a loving life with her husband, Leonard “Lenny” Chastain, who survives her. Together, they enjoyed visiting local casinos, spending time outdoors, and simply being side by side. Their companionship was a steady and joyful presence to all who knew them.

Janis is also survived by her sisters, Sharon Sewell and Linda Gail Sewell, and her beloved niece, Deborah Crowley. She was preceded in death by her parents, David Chambers and Beatrice Pemberton; her daughter, Tamela Gibson; and six brothers and five sisters who passed before her.

Ms. Jan will be remembered for her warm heart, friendly spirit, and the genuine care she showed to everyone she encountered. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting her, talking with her, and calling her a friend.

Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Homes is honored to serve the family of Janis Chastain.
