Jean Yvonne Brewington-Piltz, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 18, 2025. A longtime resident of Biloxi, Mississippi, Jean was born in London, England, on September 1, 1937, to the late Eric Harcourt Smith and Elsie Ada (Foulser).
Affectionately known as “Nana,” Jean was a woman whose warmth and kindness shone brightly wherever she went. She cherished her community and found great joy in attending services at Bay Vista Baptist Church, where she was a devoted member and a proud participant in the choir. Her voice was a blessing to many, and singing brought her deep happiness throughout her life.
Jean’s love for the outdoors was unmistakable. An expert gardener, she spent countless hours tending her flowers, coaxing beauty from the soil with her gentle hands and patient spirit. She also had a lifelong passion for photography and was rarely seen without a camera in hand. She especially loved capturing moments of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—each photograph a testament to the pride and affection she held for her family.
Jean was a faithful and loving wife. She married Sandy Brewington on June 8, 1957, and their marriage was marked by devotion and partnership until his passing on September 20, 2003. In time, she was blessed to find a second great love, Gerald Piltz, whom she married in 2007. She remained by his side with the same steadfast love until his passing on May 24, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Sandy Brewington; her second husband, Gerald Piltz; and her siblings Patricia Pannel, Carole Mullin, and Judith North.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Debbie (Jim) Twiggs, Kenneth (Teresa) Brewington, and Dianna (Brad) Hardman; her grandchildren: Keith (Virginia) Polovich II, Brynn (Michael) Knapp, Kenneth (Kelsey) Polovich, Brittany (Cameron) Watts, Kaitlyn (Pearce) Fowler, Braden Hardman, Brett Brewington, Brooke Brewington, and Blake Brewington; and her great-grandchildren, Beau, Maddox, Colston, Katie, Dawson, Spencer, Parker, Joey, and Winnie. She is also survived by her siblings, Jacqueline Ford, Eric North, John Smith, Elizabeth Povey, and Margaret Clapson.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Avenue, Biloxi, MS, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Chapel, with burial afterward at Biloxi National Cemetery.
Jean’s legacy is one of love, grace, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her gentle spirit and the beauty she nurtured—both in her garden and in the hearts of those she loved—will continue to live on for generations.
