Jesse Kennedy

d. September 18, 2023

Jesse Herron Kennedy, 84, of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away on September 18, 2023, in Gulfport. He will be most remembered for his beautiful tenor voice and his passion for singing and entertaining others. Jesse's love for music led him to win the prestigious Mario Lanza scholarship in college, and he was even asked to sing for the Lanza family in Philadelphia after Mario Lanza's passing.

Jess's primary education took place at Lopez elementary and he graduated from Biloxi high School. He furthered its education at Southern Mississippi.

Throughout his career, Jesse performed in the nightclubs of Miami being introduced as "the Voice."
He sang with the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, the Baptist Church and had been an active member in the Biloxi Little theater. However, his true joy came from bringing happiness to others during the Christmas season. Jesse would visit local assisted living homes, going from floor to floor, singing "O Holy Night." The doors down the halls would open, and happy faces would gather to listen, touched by his heartfelt performances.

Beyond his musical talent, Jesse was a dedicated advocate for his beloved City of Biloxi. He played a pivotal role in saving the White House Hotel from demolition and regularly voiced his opinions on bringing Biloxi back to its former glory through his published letters to the editor. Despite having no political experience, Jesse ran for mayor multiple times, receiving up to 25% of the vote.

Jesse faced the challenge of being legally blind since his late 30s, but he never allowed it to hinder his dreams. He remained an active real estate agent with 21st Century in Biloxi until he could no longer see where to hang the sign.

His perseverance and unwavering dedication to his gift inspired him to vocalize daily and sing for those around him and ultimately for his Lord, Jesus Christ.

Jesse is survived by his sister, Kathy "Malti" Kennedy (Pam); sister-in-law, Katie Kennedy; nephews, Kai Kennedy (Julie) and Herron Kennedy (Anna); great-nephews, Nick and Tema; and great-niece, Ezzie. He also leaves behind many cousins, including close ties to Johnny, Tommy, and Cindy Kennedy.

Jesse is preceded in death by his sister, Candice Kennedy; his son, Greg Kennedy; his parents, Herron and Audrey Kennedy Sr.; and his brother, Kirk Kennedy.

Jesse's private memorial service will be held by his family to honor his life.
