Jewel Davis West, 97, of Biloxi, MS, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in Biloxi.
Born on July 17, 1928, to Willie Lee Davis and Bertha Jane Davis, she was the daughter of a sharecropper and developed a strong work ethic that shaped her life. She graduated from Seminary High School in 1947, where she was a basketball standout. Having lived nearly a century, she witnessed remarkable changes in the world while remaining steadfast in her faith. Mrs. West was a homemaker, an ordained minister, and a devoted member of the Pentecostals of the Gulf Coast. Her late husband, Richard G. West, served as Director of Public Safety for the City of Biloxi.
Her greatest love was Jesus Christ, and she dedicated her life to serving Him by loving and uplifting others. She faithfully served her church for decades, becoming its longest-attending member, and never missed an opportunity to share the love of Jesus Christ. Known for her servant’s heart, she expressed her love by preparing meals and caring for others. Her family was her greatest joy—she loved her children and grandchildren deeply and was always there to support and care for them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. West; her daughter, Beverly Jane Culpepper; her parents; her sisters, Inez Welch and Shaunah Alexander; her brother, Bill Davis; her son-in-law, Clayton Ramage; her grandson, Jason Payne; and by her granddaughter, Pharis Gartman.
She is survived by her children, Darrel (Sherry) Barker, LaWanda Ramage, Ronny (Tina) Barker, Melonee Moritz, Theresa Olson, Gary West, Lentz (Kim) West, and Tasha (Jim) Perkins; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Dorothy Sanford; along with numerous other relatives and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Pentecostals of the Gulf Coast, with visitation beginning at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park.
