Jimmie Lynn Dobbs Galloway, age 76, died peacefully at her home in Ocean Springs, MS, on Monday, March 7th. Jimmie was born to Jim and Lucy Dobbs on August 24, 1939, in Dennis, MS. She grew up in Tishomingo County, MS and graduated from Tishomingo High School with the class of 1956. She married Harold Lee (Hal) Galloway on June 1, 1963, and immediately became a loyal “navy wife,” following Hal to duty stations in Maryland, New York, Connecticut, Mississippi, Florida, South Carolina and Virginia. While Hal was seeing the world on navy ships, she maintained the home and raised their children. She was active in various school, church and sports activities at each of the many communities in which she and Hal lived. She diligently strived to be a faithful Christian by adopting a “home church” in each location of their itinerant life and insuring the family lived the life of Christian service wherever they found themselves. She firmly believed--and lived by--two of her favorite adages: “You can preach a better sermon with your life than with your lips”; and “Be careful what you say and do. You might be the only Bible that some people ever read.” She showed Christ to people in every place God planted her.
In 1982, after Hal’s retirement from the US Navy, They established their home in Ocean Springs, MS, where she resided for the remainder of her life. She was a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church throughout her life in Ocean Springs. She served in various ministries of the church with vitality and dedication, especially those programs involved with youth or children’s ministries and Sunday school.
Jimmie is preceded in death by her parents; by a sister, Joann Clark; by her children: Teresa Dawn, Richard Lee (Rick), and Ginger Lynn; by her mother-in-law; by two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in law; and by a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law.
