John Joseph Albrycht, 92, of Ocean Springs MS died on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
He was born April 28, 1933, in Glen Cove, NY to John Leon and Nellie Albrycht. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marjorie Boleware Albrycht.
John is survived by his daughters, Kathryn Albrycht currently of Ocean Springs, MS and granddaughter, Isibél Owens Cagney and her husband William (USCG) and Phyllis Albrycht Wenham, her husband Jim and grandchildren Ben and Abby of Lawrenceville GA.
John spent his childhood on the idyllic Coe Estate, now known as Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay, New York where his mother and father were employed and their family resided.
After John graduated from Oyster Bay High School in 1952, he joined the Air Force and found himself stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi MS, where he met and married Marjorie.
Always seeking adventure, John and Marjorie spent a few years living in Germany while John was employed with the defense division of General Electric. Upon returning to the States, they settled in Ocean Springs and John, along with Dewey, Marjorie’s father, designed and built their family home in 1965 in Gulf Hills.
John joined the ranks of the Civil Service and was employed at Keesler AFB where he worked as a Computer Training Manager. He retired in 1992.
With a strong belief in giving back to the community, John was involved in numerous civic and volunteer organizations including the Gulf Hills Civic Association Board, the West Jackson County Utility District Board and served as a Safety Trainer for Operation Lifesaver with CSX Railroad. He volunteered with HOSA (Historic Ocean Springs Association) and at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art.
In his spare time, his hobbies included N scale train sets, designing and building stained glass pieces and collecting antiques.
Funeral services will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs on Tuesday, October 7 with visitation at 11:00 AM and the service at noon. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Walter Anderson Museum in Ocean Springs and take time to visit this wonderful gallery and one of John’s favorite places, the Community Center there.
