John Larson Fountain, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026 — a date made even more meaningful as it fell on the birthday of his beloved wife, Nelldine, a reminder to those who loved them that their bond endures beyond this life.
He was born on April 22, 1938, to Albert and Augustine Fountain.
John was a man known for his strength of character, unwavering integrity, and deep commitment to serving others. Over the course of his life, he built a reputation as someone who could be counted on — both in his work and in his community. He began his career as a skilled carpenter. He later served as a patrolman before dedicating many years of his life to public service as a constable. His role as constable was one he carried with great pride and responsibility. John believed deeply in protecting and serving his community, and he approached the position with fairness, courage, and respect for all. For many years, he was a familiar and trusted presence to those he served — a man who stood for what was right and who took seriously the duty of looking after his neighbors. His service left a lasting impact on the community and earned him the respect and admiration of many.
On September 28, 1958, he married the love of his life, Nelldine Fountain. Together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage and built a beautiful family, raising their two daughters, Teresa and Dina.
John was a man of deep faith and a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was also active in his community and social organizations. He proudly served as the second King of the Southernettes Mardi Gras Association and was a dedicated member of the French Club, where he held various roles throughout the years.
He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures — visiting the casino, cheering on Ole Miss football, and most of all spending time with the family he loved so deeply.
To his grandchildren, he was simply “PawPaw,” a title he wore with immense pride and love. He was a devoted grandfather to Rianne, Roslyn (Brandon), and Daniel, and a proud great-grandfather to Nora, who brought him tremendous joy.
John leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, and devotion to family that will live on through the generations who loved him. His absence leaves a tremendous hole in the hearts of those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Augustine Fountain; his beloved wife of 64 years, Nelldine Fountain; and his siblings, Malcolm, Elvin, Wallace, Charles and Gilbert Fountain.
He is survived by his daughters, Teresa (Dave) Fountain-Daigle and Dina Fountain; his cherished grandchildren, Rianne, Roslyn (Brandon), and Daniel; his great-granddaughter, Nora; his siblings, Albert James Fountain and Joyce Myers; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who adored him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Yashashree Bethala and the compassionate team at Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness they showed John and his family during his final days.
