Joseph “Joe” Anthony Toche, Jr., 99, died Friday, April 9, 2016 in Ocean Springs, MS. Joe was born to Joseph Anthony Toche, Sr. and Mary Olivia Ryan Toche on April 4, 1917 in Biloxi, MS. He was the youngest of nine children.
Joe was a master carpenter. Early in his career, he worked at Higgins Shipyard in New Orleans building the famous Higgins boats used during World War II. He also worked at Toche Shipyard in Ocean Springs. He then built houses working for his son at Red Dot Construction until he retired.
Joe was a devoted family man and a devout Catholic. His family was his hobby; he loved nothing more than having his family surrounding him.
November 30, 1940 he married the love of his life, Doris Davis. Joe and Doris had six children, twelve grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren.
He was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Ocean Springs where after his retirement he served as altar boy at the daily morning Mass. Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Anthony Toche, Sr. and Mary Olivia Ryan Toche; his beloved wife, Doris Davis Toche; his son, Francis Wilmont Toche; his great granddaughter Madison Elaine Hill; his four brothers – Joseph Wesley Toche, John Adaulph Toche, Henry Marcellus Toche, Calvin Sylvian Toche; and his four sisters – Lillie Agnes Toche Cruso, Caroline Pauline Toche, Mary Olivia Toche, and Tabitha Iona Toche James.
He is survived by his children Joseph Anthony Toche, III (Sandra), Charles Thomas Toche (Lucy), Marilyn Toche McDavid (James), Trudy Toche Mathieu (Anthony), and Nancy Toche; his grandchildren Joseph Anthony Toche, IV (Stephanie), Michelle Toche Chacon (Joseph), Francis Wilmont Toche Jr. (Heather), Jude Carol Toche, Benjamin Pere Toche (Andrea), Sara McDavid Oropesa (John), Millie McDavid Hill (Troy), Amanda McDavid Wood (Joseph), Olivia McDavid Latvala (Josh), Brandy Toche Luckey (Ron); his great grandchildren – Olivia and Samuel Toche; Joshua Anthony Chacon; Terri and Joshua Elijah Toche; Gavin and Kiernan Toche and Ulysses Hackbarth-Toche; Jacob, Katherine, and Luke Oropesa; Allison Hill; Abigail, Xavier, Chloe, and Emma Wood; and Zizzy Luckey.
Visitation will be Friday, April 15, 2016 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs – immediate family visitation from 4 pm to 5 pm, extended family and friends visitation from 5 pm to 8 pm. Rosary will be said at 5 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 9 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Ocean Springs. Family and friends are invited to visit from 8:30 am to 9 am on Saturday. Interment will be in the Biloxi City Cemetery.
