Josephine Jones

August 16, 1935 — July 1, 2025

Gulfport

Mrs. Josephine Jones was born on August 16, 1935, in Waynesboro, MS. She was the 5th of seven children born to the late Mr. Eddie Jordan and Mrs. Lessie Russell Jordan and was the last sibling remaining alive until she answered our Heavenly Father’s call to return home on July 1, 2025.

Mrs. Josephine grew up in Waynesboro, MS, where she graduated from Smith-Hughes High School. She found herself spending a lot of her time with her older sister, Annie Lou and family in Mobile, Alabama, where she met her husband, Robert Jones, Sr.

Mrs. Josephine Jones was united in marriage on July 18, 1960, to Rev. Robert Jones, Sr. who calls her, “THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD”, whenever he would go to see her at work. They were married for 45 years until Rev. Jones departed this earthly life on November 23, 2005. To this union four children were born, Gloria Jean Jordan, Robert Jones, Jr., David Kent Jones, and Roberta Jones.

To our mother, family was always essential where she would ensure we took family trips to Disney World. Prayer and God’s Word were vital in her family where her signature closing prayer was, “Lord, Remember Me”, and two of her favorite scriptures she memorized were “Psalm 27 and the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6). Our mother’s life was marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community. She showered her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends with such a heart of gold. She was truly a phenomenal woman.

As a young girl, she was a member of Holly Bush Baptist Church. Later in the years, she and her family became members of Little Rock Baptist, where she stayed until the end. Mom enjoyed going to church, where she served faithfully as a Deaconess. Her compassionate spirit was evident in her acts of kindness, whether she was preparing meals for her neighbors, visiting residents at the nursing homes or hospitals, playing checkers with loved ones, or volunteering her time at the Senior Citizens Community Center and Voting Election Polls.

Mom dedicated over 40 years of her life to the Culinary Industry, with 25 of those years spent at Memorial Hospital, where she later retired and was known to be sought out from doctors and patients in the hospital for certain specialty meals that only she could master. She found great joy in cooking (known as “The Master Chef”), gardening, music, shopping, and extending care to others. We will truly miss her specialty seafood gumbo, southern cornbread dressing, homemade chicken and dumplings, sweet potato pies, coconut and German chocolate cakes, homemade pizzas, tender T-bone steaks, and many more!

Our mother was preceded in death by her husband, Rev Robert Jones, Sr.; one daughter, Gloria Jean Patterson (Jordan); one grandson, David Williams Jones; her parents, Eddie and Lessie Jordan (Russell); her paternal and maternal grandparents; two brothers, John T Jordan and Virgil Jordan; four sisters, Annie Lou West, John Ola Pou, Ethel Hale Daniels, and Mary Taylor; one sister-in-love, Emma Hicks, and host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Josephine Jones touched countless lives with her warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith. Her memory will continue to be cherished by her children: daughter, Pastor Roberta Dampier of Gulfport, MS; two sons, Elder Robert Jones, Jr. of Des Moines, IA, and David Kent Jones (Mesha) of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Yolanda Rene (Micheal) Pyrtle of Houston, TX and Robert Allen Patterson of Houston, TX; 2 great-grandchildren, Melody and Makayla Pyrtle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends left to celebrate her life and legacy and all those whose lives she gracefully enriched.
