Julie Wynette Taranto

Mar 22, 1975 — Oct 4, 2026

D'Iberville, MS

Julie Wynette Taranto, 51, was called home on October 4, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her final moments were filled with love as she was surrounded by those who meant the most to her and resting in her mother’s hands.

Julie was born in Biloxi on March 22, 1975, making a grand entrance—surprisingly early. Even as a newborn, she seemed determined to overcome every obstacle. Family stories of her birth often highlight two things: how beautiful she was and how remarkably tiny. She was so small, in fact, that she could fit inside a child sized shoebox.

That tiny baby grew into a woman whose heart was far bigger than the world around her.

Julie was a lifelong resident of D’Iberville, a community deeply rooted in her heart. She graduated from D’Iberville High School in 1994 before attending Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where she became a member of the Bulldog Band as an accomplished clarinetist.

In her younger years Julie loved roller skating and could be found at Golden Gate Skating Rink nearly every weekend. But perhaps no pastime brought her more happiness than fishing with her father, taking every opportunity to be on the water. Together, they competed in fishing rodeos, proudly bringing home titles and trophies while creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Julie devoted much of her later years to cheering on the teams she loved, especially the Mississippi Seawolves. No game was too far away for her to travel to support them from the stands. She was also a devoted LSU and New Orleans Saints football fan. Long road trip shenanigans were easily Julie’s specialty and the stories born from them have never disappointed a listening ear.

Julie had another great love: Disney. She treasured her time in the Disney parks, where she could fully embrace the childlike wonder and magic that came so naturally to her. To Julie, Disney was not simply a place she visited—it was a place where she felt completely at home.

Perhaps Julie’s most endearing quality—and the very thing that drew so many people to her—was her extraordinary ability to love others. She had a special heart for those who were struggling or less fortunate and was one of the most selfless people anyone could know, often giving far beyond her means to make someone else’s life a little brighter.

Julie loved celebrating the holidays, not only for the family memories they created and her family’s extravagant style of decorating, but because they gave her another opportunity to give. She would save throughout the year to choose as many angels from the Angel Tree as possible, determined to fulfill the children’s wishes—and then add even more.

To Julie, this was not charity; it was simply the way her heart loved. Generosity and service were woven into the very fabric of her being.

Julie was a co-owner of the Dinner Bell Restaurant, a family-owned business she was incredibly proud to be part of. She was exceptionally talented in the kitchen, flawlessly running an entire breakfast service preparing food so delicious that no one could bear to leave a crumb behind.

Later, Julie opened All Wrapped Up, a successful gift store in D’Iberville, where her love for people once again found a home.

One of her proudest professional accomplishments came through her work with the Marriott hospitality chain, where she served as a Food and Beverage Supervisor. Under her leadership, she helped create a nationally recognized café and earned recognition for the exceptional operation she built and supervised.

But Julie’s greatest accomplishments were never measured by titles, trophies, businesses, or professional recognition. They were measured in people—the ones she loved, helped, encouraged, and touched simply by being Julie.

Julie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Julius and Wilda Taranto, and her sister, Sara Taranto Miller.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted mother and most cherished companion, Barbara Taranto; sisters Susan (Donnie) Wicks and Tammy Taranto; sister and best friend, Carrie Francis (Melvin) Taranto-Chipley; brother-in-law Joey Miller; brother-in-love, CJ Serpas; nieces and nephews Jaylee, Katelyn, and Bryson (Stephanie) Gill, and Dominic and Juliana Serpas,Kraig Funderburk, Jamie (Alan) Chereskin, Jessica (Edward) Riddle, and Katie Miller; along many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who lovingly became extended family.

Julie shared a special bond with her mother, serving as her closest confidante, roommate, and friend, they shared every moment and season of each other’s life journey. She was a beloved sister who shared a twin-like bond and a lifetime of memories with Carrie Francis; and most especially, she was a dedicated, caring, and sometimes irresponsibly fun aunt.

Nothing brought Julie more joy than spoiling her nieces and nephews. Their lives are forever richer because of the love, laughter, memories, and countless moments they shared with her. She was by far, their favorite.

Julie was born and lived her life as her Daddy’s little girl. While the pain of losing her is immense, her mother finds comfort in knowing that her daddy has his little girl back. It was known that Julie was his pride and joy. Together, they are whole again.

Julie lived a life defined by resilience, generosity, loyalty, and an extraordinary capacity to love. Though her life was far too short, the imprint she left on those around her was anything but small.

The tiny little girl who once fit inside a shoebox grew into a woman whose heart had room for everyone.

One of Julie’s final wishes was to honor the D’Iberville Fire Department with a holiday meal in her memory. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may contribute by providing grocery or restaurant gift cards or by contacting Julie’s family at heartofjulie@gmail.com or Barbara or Carrie directly.

Julie’s family would like to thank and invite all who have loved and supported Julie and her family to join them in celebrating her remarkable life, share memories, and enjoy a meal on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at the D’Iberville Town Green.

Barbara and Carrie extend their heartfelt gratitude to Julie’s exceptional medical team, including Dr. Allison Wall, Bailey Stokes PA-C, and their entire supporting staff. Their extraordinary care reached far beyond medicine- offering healing and comfort to the hearts, minds, and spirits of Julie and those who loved her most. There are no words great enough to express what these women have meant to the family.

Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the family of Julie Wynette Taranto.
