June Gail Russum Havens

June Gail Russum Havens, age 61, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012. June was born on January 27, 1951, to Thomas and Blanch Russum in Smith County, MS. Her family moved to Jackson, MS where she grew up and graduated from high school. After achieving a Master’s Degree from the University of Southern MS, June arrived on the coast and worked as an academic counselor for the Ocean Springs Schools. She later went on to work as an academic counselor at the Jackson County Campus of MS Gulf Coast Community College from which she retired. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, L.E. (Gene) Havens; an aunt and uncle, John and Rachel Russum and a large circle of wonderful friends. June was a supporter of various local environmental organizations and provided therapy dog services to the local schools. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, from 10 am until 12 noon, with a 12 noon Memorial to her life, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Byrd-Wilson Cemetery on Farm Rd. in North Vancleave. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society.
