On December 16, 2015, Kenneth Aubrey Broadus, 79, joined a host of believers at the feet of Jesus to begin his life in the eternal presence of The King. Born to Cecil and Eddie Belle (McClain) Broadus in Mobile, Alabama, big brother to Tony and Carol, Ken began his ministry in LeRoy, Kansas in 1960. “Brother B”, as those he pastored knew him, married Joyce Julian in 1956, after they met at college, and together they lived as examples of Christian values in action. He and Joyce parented two sons, Mike and Steve. Loving grandparents to Adam, Elise, and Brittany Broadus, and Lindsay (Broadus) Cruz, they also enjoyed being great-grandparents to Conner and Willow Broadus, and Isla Cruz.
An ordained Assemblies of God minister for 50 years, pastor Broadus attended Central Bible College and Assemblies of God Seminary, obtaining both BA and MA degrees. Early in his ministry, he was an evangelist, but pastored churches for 40 years. Beginning as a pastor in LeRoy, Great Bend, and Winfield, Kansas, the majority of his years as a church leader were at Cedar Lake Christian Assembly of God where he pastored for 30 years. Under his ministry, with the help of the other church leaders, the church grew and affected the Mississippi Gulf Coast religious community in numerous ways. He started and led the reconciliation ministry on The Coast for ten years. Pastor Broadus served as presbyter and executive presbyter for the Mississippi District of the Assemblies of God for many years.
He had a passion for missions, making many trips across the globe in support of important causes, spending time in West Africa, India, Mexico, and Uruguay. He was instrumental in supporting the Lillian Thrasher Orphanage in Egypt, which ministered to thousands of children. During his travels, he trained and ministered to countless ministers as they worked in their mission fields.
After his retirement from formal ministry, he continued to contribute by speaking at churches and revivals. When Katrina destroyed his and Joyce’s home in Biloxi, they relocated to Mount Pleasant, Texas. Pastor Broadus continued to minister to others through teaching a men’s Bible class with his local congregation at First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant as well as being a volunteer chaplain with Titus County Regional Medical Center.
The family wishes to recognize and thank the many church leaders, pastors, elders, teachers, members, and supporters of his ministry throughout the years, both in Biloxi, and Mount Pleasant. Special appreciation is given to Brother Clint Davis, pastor and the congregation at Mount Pleasant First Baptist Church for their open and welcome arms.
Remembering Brother B’s passion for life and love for his family and congregation, we will honor him with a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 at First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant on Saturday December 19 with the service starting at 11:00 AM and again at Cedar Lake Christian Assembly of God in Biloxi on Sunday, December 20 at 6:30.
If preferred, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Edgar Reed Fire Bible Projects, 705 Shelley Street, Willard, MO 65781. The Fire Bible is an international language edition of the Full Life Study Bible, available in 26 languages with more in development.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Broadus, sons Mike (wife Margaret Brooks) and Steve (wife Belinda Mesch), grandchildren Adam, Elise, and Brittany Broadus, and Lindsay (Broadus) Cruz, and great grandchildren Conner and Willow Broadus and Isla Cruz, and brother Tony Broadus, and sister Carol Baker.
