Kenneth J. Fountain, age 95, a lifelong resident of St. Martin, Mississippi, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Catherine (Peaches) Fountain; parents, Johnnie and Ida Fountain; brothers, John Fountain, Jr. and Gary Fountain; sister, Mary Frances Johnson; and grandson, Clint Fountain. He is survived by his sons, Art (Connie), Mark (Susan), Rod (Nancy), Hal (Karen), and daughter, Penny Daugherty (Vincent); ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Kenneth graduated from Notre Dame High School as salutatorian in 1947 and from the U.S. Maritime Service Training School in St. Petersburg, FL, in 1948. He was employed by the Merchant Marine as a U.S. Coast Guard licensed ship pilot on the Great Lakes. In 1960, Kenneth began a 25-year career at the Continental Can/National Can Companies in Pascagoula, MS. Kenneth worked as a marine crew member on Biloxi’s first gambling cruise boat, the Europa Star, in 1988. This was followed by employment as the ship pilot on Biloxi’s second cruise gambling boat, the LA Cruise.
Kenneth had a love for airplanes that began at the age of 9 when he rode in an airplane for the first time. He soloed in 1948 at the age of 18 in a Piper Cub in St. Petersburg, FL. Fishing was another of his favorite pastimes – one he shared with his wife and children. Kenneth enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and sharing the stories of his lifetime experiences.
Kenneth was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit one hour prior. Burial will follow at Bosarge Cemetery.
Immediately following the burial, family and friends are invited to a fellowship meal at the St. Martin Community Center in North Biloxi.
