Larry Alan Covington passed away Thursday evening, February 2, 2012. Larry was born in Pensacola, FL and spent his youth in Fairhope, AL. He served in the United States Marine Corps with time spent in Okinawa, Japan. Through his thirty-two year employment with Nabisco as a sales representative, he was affectionately known as “the cookie man”.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Webb Covington and his father, Robert Judson Covington.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet; his daughters, Laurie Hawkins (David) and Paula Roche (Joseph)both of Franklin, TN; his sister, Dale Benik (Willie) of Fairhope, AL and special extended family members, Bethany, Jon, and Carabelle Melton, and Josh Hawkins all of Franklin, TN and his two beloved little granddaughters, Avery and Anika Roche.
Larry, known as “Cov” to his friends, was an avid fisherman. He spent countless hours on the water enjoying the barrier islands, sunsets and the MS Gulf Coast he so loved. Larry served on the Ocean Springs school board, was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society and St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Ocean Springs.
Visitation will be Monday evening, February 6, at Bradford-O’Keefe, Ocean Springs, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., with rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, February 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne, AL. He will be laid to rest at Belforest Catholic Cemetery Daphne, AL.
