Laurence “Bud” Wallace Burnett, Jr., age 87, of Biloxi, MS passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Born June 8, 1938 in Cushing, OK, Bud was the son of Laurence Wallace Brunett, Sr. and Mary Neal Christy Burnett. He graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. Bud proudly served his country, joining the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Major. He piloted helicopters as well as being chosen to pilot C-141 cargo aircraft and was a navigator on B-52 bombers during the Korean and Vietnam arenas. Post retirement, Bud piloted helicopters in the oil field industry as well as working in various positions and professions later in life.

Bud enjoyed mathematics immensely, eventually publishing a book on his favorite subject, Algebra. He enjoyed lovingly sharing his experiences and accomplishments of his years flying rotor and fixed wing aircraft with his children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nancy Ann Burnett; his second wife, Emiko Mukai Burnett; and his stepdaughter, Diane Powell.

Bud is survived by his children, Laurence W. Burnett, III, Lori Burnett Turner and Max A. Burnett. Additionally, he survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Patricia Wells; and his brother, Mike Burnett.

A graveside service will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 2:30 pm.
