Leda Welva Meyer Clemence passed from this life to her eternal life on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at age 83 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was courageous, tenacious, and dearly loved her family, friends, and many pets. Born on September 25, 1927 in New Orleans, she was raised and married there before living in many different locales as an Air Force wife. Upon her husband's military retirement, they settled in Ocean Springs, Mississippi where she resided for 42 years. Leda spent the last four years in Hoover, Alabama, and was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Leda was preceded in death by her parents Henry James Meyer II and Mildred Amen Meyer, her brother Henry James Meyer III and nephew Keith Roland Meyer and her husband DeVonde Clemence.
She is survived by her son DeVonde Clemence (Kathleen) of Reno, Nevada, and daughters Lani Clemence, New Orleans, and Lori Clemence Collins, along with two granddaughters, Kelsey Kathleen Collins and Kristen DeVonde Collins, all of Hoover. A niece and nephew, Donna Meyer Rasch and Conrad Meyer, both of Louisiana, also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Ocean Springs. Inurnment will be at Hope Mausoleum, New Orleans.
