Loretta Mae Griggs, 97, of Biloxi, MS passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2024.
Loretta was born in Troy Mo. on May 18, 1927, to Charles and Sylvia (Kadlec) Shilharvey.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Paul D. Griggs; parents Charles and Sylvia Shilharvey; brother, Roy Shilharvey; grandson, Daniel Petty; and son in law Thomas Brimmer.
She was a nurse at the Catholic Hospital in St. Charles Mo. until she married Paul in 1946. Loretta was a stay-at-home mom until she became a beautician and opened her own very successful salon in Overland Mo. Loretta loved to travel so we visited most all the United States. In 1979 Paul and Loretta were able to retire to Naples Florida where they could fish and enjoyed meeting people from all over the country. Due to Paul’s health in 1998 they moved to Biloxi, Mississippi to be closer to family. They were members of Our Lady of Fatima. Loretta enjoyed gardening wherever she lived and watching the birds that came into her yard. She loved feeding peanuts by hand to the squirrels and ducks.
She is survived by her two daughters, Joy Brimmer and Gail Petty; grandchildren, Renee Lester (Ronald), Charles Brimmer (Mandy Montiforte), Gabrial Petty (Rebecca) and Samuel Petty; great grandchildren, Sydney, Jordyn, Bradley, Brody, Sofia and Jenn Frostad Arca; and great – great grandchildren, Julian and Fletcher.
The family asks that as an alternative to flowers, memorial contributions be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. The family wants to thank the staff at the Southern Magnolia Manor Care Home who cared for Loretta during her final days.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 12:30 pm, at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, Ms.
