Mrs. Lorraine Garska Owens, age 81, resident of Gulfport, went home to her final resting place Friday, October 23, 2009.
Mrs. Owens was a native of Brooklyn, New York, born July 5, 1928, to the late Louis and Mary Garska of New York. She was married to the late Donald A. Owens of Gulfport. She enjoyed working as a beauty consultant for Mary Kay cosmetics and knitting baby blankets, slippers, and hats which she donated to churches and sent over-seas for the poor. She was an incredible woman who loved and took care of her friends up until her death.
She is survived by her brother, George Garska of New York, her aunt Antionet (Jenny) Piquet of New Hampshire, a cousin Ed Szulviach of New York, a cousin Dorothy Keenon of Missouri, her closest friends,
Ida Hammons of Long Beach, Yvonne Magee of Gulfport, Marilyn Brent of Gulfport, and all who took care of her at Lakeview Nursing Home. She touched the hearts of many people and will be truly missed.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach where friends may visit beginning at 6:30 p.m.. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on 15th St. in Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
