Louis Ellis Green, 93, of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026. He was born on August 25, 1932, in Hazelhurst, Mississippi, to the late Jobie Green and Thelma Johnson.
Mr. Green lived a life defined by service, discipline, faith, and devotion to family. He proudly served in the United States Army for more than twenty years, retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his distinguished military career, he completed multiple overseas tours, including service in Vietnam and Korea. He received numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star Medal with āVā Device for valor in combat, the Army Commendation Medal with multiple awards, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and other campaign and service honors. His record reflected courage, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to duty.
After retiring from the Army in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he continued to lead by example as a husband, father, grandfather, and community member. His steady presence and strong work ethic shaped the lives of those around him.
He was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Handsboro, where he remained rooted in his faith. He was also a proud member of the Freemasons. In his leisure time, he enjoyed bowling, baseball, racquetball, fishing, playing spades, and dominoes. He valued fellowship and found joy in friendly competition and conversation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jobie Green and Thelma Johnson; son, Kenneth L. Green Sr.; siblings, Beaulah Bogan, Robert Green, Thelma Terry, Ozell Green, Johnnie Green, and Willie Green; and granddaughter, Keyna L. D. Rhodes.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of over 70 years, Otelia Terry Green; children, Louis E. Green Jr., Michele Green, and Kevin Green; brother, Herbert Green; sister, Bessie Williams; grandchildren, Ellis McHenry, Dr. Keshia Rentz, Kizzy Crockett, Kenneth L. Green Jr., Keleigh-Terrie Green, Brianna Green Davis, Kristyan Green, Makaylah McMillen, Morgan Latimer, Jaida Latimer, and Keviyah Green; along with a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended loved ones.
A visitation will be held from 5 pm to 6 pm on Friday, February 27, 2026 at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home. A homegoing celebration will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at First Missionary Baptist Church of Handsboro in Gulfport, Mississippi. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi. A repast will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church of Handsboro immediately following the burial service.
His legacy of faith, honor, strength, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
