Lt. Col. Retired Alfred "Fred" Randolph Koval

Lt. Col. Retired Alfred “Fred” Randolph Koval, Sr., was born in Erie, PA on March 3, 1922 and died peacefully Saturday, February 6, 2016 just a month shy of 94 years. He ascended into heaven to join the love of his life , Ann, in a never-ending Waltz. With 63 years of marriage and eight children, he is preceded in death by three sons, Frederick Koval, Alfred Koval, Jr. and William Koval. He is survived by his children, Tina Koval, Susan (Michael) Maher, Marc (Jeanette) Koval, Lynn (Tamara) Koval, Lysa Brossard, Aimee Koval and Ryan (Hailey) Koval. His grandchildren are Russell, Matthew, Daniel, Arianna, Ty, JC, Jason, and Katelynn. Mr. Koval was a longtime member of Nativity B.V.M. After attending Penn State, he joined the Army Air Corps following the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was with the Army Air Corps410th Squadron, 94th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, stationed at Bury St. Edmund, Cambridgeshire, England, at Rousham Field. After serving one tour over Germany, he volunteered for a second tour. His aircrafts were Erie Ferry, Genie, Ghost of Chance and Lucy Valves. Afterwards, he was a part of the Berlin Airlift. He retired from the Air Force in 1963 and continued in the Civil Service teaching electronics for many years at Keesler Air Force Base. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a service on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. all at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home.
