Lucille Green Saul, 95, resident of Ocean Springs, MS passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in Ocean Springs.
She was born in Wayne County, MS, the daughter of William A. and Onie Collins Green and graduated from Beat Four High School and Jones County Jr. College. After graduation, she taught elementary school for one year and worked federal civil service at Brookley Field, AL and in Louisville, KY.
Lucille accompanied her husband, Chaplain Lt. Col. Laurence E. Saul, USAF around the globe as a loyal Air Force wife and mother of two sons. She was active in numerous Air Force Protestant Chapel Ministries in Alaska, Libya, Turkey, Japan and eleven states. A talented, gifted, award winning artist since childhood, she was an avid drawer and oil painter, with hundreds of beautiful, original paintings to her credit. Endowed with artistic talents, she studied drawing and painting at the University of Louisville and continued graphic art study in Alaska. She had concentrated art study under renowned artists from Columbia University and the New York City Art Students’ League. Her artistic talent was considered exceptional and she received recommendations for a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Europe.
Lucille enjoyed experiencing diverse world cultures, having lived overseas on three continents as a devoted Air Force wife. Later in life, she continued world travels throughout Europe and Asia, as well as South America and the Caribbean Islands.
An avid ballroom dancer, Lucille competed and received awards on the dance floor; a journey of dance and theatre during elementary school plays/high school stage productions and leading theatre roles in college.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Laurence E. Saul; her parents, William A. Green and Onie Collins Green; sister, Ruth Green Waller; and numerous aunts and uncles from Jones and Wayne counties in Mississippi.
Lucille is survived by her sons, William L. Saul (Lis) of Lafayette, LA and Jonathan O. Saul (Sandra) of Ocean Springs, MS; a granddaughter, Molly R. Saul of Ocean Springs, MS; and nieces, Sylvia Waller Kloumassis and Jackie Waller Ward of Mobile, AL.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service time. Burial will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Erata Cemetery in Laurel, MS at 12 noon.
