Lula Elizabeth Griffis

Lula Elizabeth Griffis, 88, of Biloxi, MS passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022 in Gulfport. She was born on September 9, 1933 to Fulton and Maguerite Vick.

How does one describe our mother: She was so much in so many gentle and quiet ways. Her love for God stood strong and she embraced her Christianity not simply as a faith, but as her center. Her love of Christ guided all parts of every day. She was a devoted wife and mother-loyal, loving and always present, supporting her children while encouraging their dreams-following her husband, strong in her commitment to their love. From homeroom mother, to carpool specialist, to stoic wife during her husband’s assignment to Vietnam, she was the heart of her family.

She volunteered years of service to the Red Cross, serving in Italy, Wichita and Biloxi. She worked 25 years as the dedicated Financial Secretary for First Baptist Biloxi and contributed 23 years of service to Harrison County at the polls during elections.

Her generous spirit provided comfort and deep kindness to all people and to God’s four-footed creatures as well. Heaven will indeed be brighter with her presence, but she will be so deeply missed by family, former colleagues and treasured friends, whose lives she richly blessed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry G. Griffis; her parents; and her sisters, Germaine Sinclair and Monique Cannon.

Mrs. Griffis’ survivors include her children, Dr. Gary K. Griffis and Dr. Teresa M. Griffis; and her sister, Donnis Fuhr.

Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Biloxi on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
