Malama Thrasivoulou

February 18, 1920 — September 6, 2025

Biloxi

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Malama Thrasivoulou, a remarkable woman who brought joy and warmth to everyone she met. At the age of 105, she was the last of her generation, having outlived all five of her siblings.

Born on February 18, 1920, on the island of Samos, Greece, her early life was full of rich cultural traditions, which she carried with her and passed down throughout her lifetime. She experienced and lived through the Italian and German occupation of Samos during World War II, a period that brought significant hardship to the island.

Malama was a loving wife and devoted mother. Her kitchen was a place where she effortlessly created delicious Greek meals and desserts from scratch, often without a recipe.

Her passion for gardening transformed her yard into a breathtaking display, admired by all who passed by. In 1967, seeking greater opportunity, she immigrated to the United States with her beloved husband, Xenofon, and their two children, Maritsa (Maria) and Nikolaos (Nick), ready to establish a new future. She studied and took great pride in becoming an American citizen on February 10,1983.

Her hands were rarely idle, always busy creating something beautiful. As a wonderfully talented seamstress, she made all of her children’s clothing when they were young, and later offered her expertise for clothing alterations to countless friends and clients. Her creativity also shone through knitting and crocheting, producing beautiful, hand-made bed covers that became heirlooms for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Malama lived a simple life, deeply rooted in her faith and love of the church, with the philosophy of an "open door policy." Her home was open to all and a constant hub of hospitality, always filled with laughter, good food, and welcoming arms. She possessed an extraordinary ability to connect with people, making friends effortlessly wherever she went. Her kindness ensured she was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her radiant smile, a reflection of the joy she brought into the world, will be forever missed.

She was predeceased in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Xenofon Thrasivoulou and her son, Nikolaos (Nick) Thrasivoulou.

Malama's loving memory will be cherished by her daughter, Maritsa (Maria) and her husband Panagiotis (Peter) Loukatos, her daughter in law, Eva Thrasivoulou, her beloved grandchildren Christine and her husband, Michael Lasquade, George Loukatos, George Thrasivoulou, her adored great-grandchildren, Logan and Chloe Lasquade, Olivia, Penelope, and Gabriel Loukatos, many nieces and nephews both in Greece and the US, along with a wide circle of friends and extended family.

Malama’s legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering spirit will forever be cherished by her family and friends.
