Margaret Smith Davis

Margaret Smith Davis, 81, of Gulfport went home to Jesus on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Margaret was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Margaret was survived by her husband of 58 years and best friend for 61 years, Thomas B. Davis. She is also survived by her brother, Homer Smith, daughters, Joan Ellen Reid (Jefferson Reid) and Carol Ann Davis, granddaughters, Annalee Grace Hanson and Olivia May Davis, and longtime pen pal Karletta McCoy. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Daniel and May Smith, and siblings, Harold Smith, Ruby Smith, Dorothy Landrum, Nellie Slade, Jessie Smith, and Oscar Smith.

Margaret was a lifelong resident of Gulfport and a 1958 Gulfport High School graduate. She loved helping others and giving back to her community. After high school she became a dental assistant and receptionist for over 30 years for the late Dr. Charles King. She loved the patients and thought of them as her extended family. She always greeted each patient with a smile, remembering something that they told her on the last visit and asking about it to help them feel at ease.

Margaret was an extraordinary mother and loved supporting, teaching, and helping children. While raising her daughters, she was a substitute teacher at Lyman Elementary School and a Girl Scout Leader to several troops in the Whispering Pines Neighborhood. She spent most weekends in the spring and summer teaching young girls how to cook over a campfire and helping them earn service badges.

Margaret had many loving and enduring qualities but to her family and friends she was best known for her baking skills. Homemade biscuits in the morning were always a cause for celebration, blueberry pies were served at every summertime event, and pecan pies were must for the holidays.

Margaret enjoyed traveling and seeing the wonders of God through nature and exploration. Her travels took her from Niagara Falls to Hawaii. Her most beloved travel destination was the Great Smokey Mountains where she spent almost every summer hiking and picnicking.

While she will forever be missed, she is at home now with her parents and siblings rejoicing.

The family prefers memorials to St. Labre Indian School, 1000 Tongue River Road, Ashland, MT 59004.
