Marilyn Schommer York

Marilyn “maw maw fish” Schommer York passed away on May 22, 2025. She was born on May 12, 1943, in New Orleans, Louisiana, grew up in Metairie, and lived in various cities in Louisiana before relocating to Biloxi, Mississippi in 1976.

Marilyn dedicated over 20 years of her career to Swingster Textiles in Gulfport and Ocean Springs. Following the closure of the company, she pursued a new path as a dog groomer, successfully managing her business, Grooming by Marilyn, in D’Iberville until 2018. Her hobbies included fishing and crafting.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, William and Anna Schommer; her husband and fishing buddy, Harold E. York; and her daughter, Janet Necaise.

She is survived by her children, Debra (Ben) Trombatore, Donna (Mike)Dunnaway, Donald Howze Jr., Tommy Howze, Patty (Chris) Latil, and Jeanie Tolbert, along with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff at The Claiborne in Gulfport and Vital Caring Hospice. They would also like to thank her bonus daughter, Ellen Hollingsworth, for her care and love.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the York family.
