Mark Carl Nagell

Gulfport

Mark Carl Nagell of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026, after a battle with Multiple Myeloma cancer. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Fernmarie and his siblings Kitty and Mike. Mark is survived by his daughters, his partner, Karen, and his brother Joe.

Mark Nagell was a one-of-a-kind character. He had an indescribable passion for what he loved. His appreciation for music was not only dedicated to his daily guitar playing and classes, but for his eclectic music taste that celebrated music from all different genres.

He loved to challenge himself with marathons, including the Boston Marathon, to extreme sports. Even when he was extremely sick and hardly able to walk, he would still routinely swim in his condo’s pool, keep track of his time, and proudly share it with us. He would also do laps in his wheelchair up and down the hallway at Brookdale Memory Care.

Mark was proud of his military service in the Navy. He was also a proud educator who led with understanding, care, and structure. He celebrated his students with kindness and acceptance. He loved people from all walks of life and was an inclusive person.

Mark created a fulfilling life in Mississippi from his running club to Toastmasters to his business club. It was also here that he met his partner of 11 years, Karen Lott. He and Karen would go on to create many memories together with some of their most cherished memories being their ballroom dances.

Mark had some fun quirks that made him unpredictable, clever, and charming. He said what he meant and wasn’t afraid to rock the boat. This would give a refreshing twist to daily life and occurrences. Mark was supportive of his children and allowed them to follow their own path without question.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Biloxi National cemetery.

His family is extremely thankful for the caring staff at Brookdale in Biloxi and the wonderful workers at Gentiva Hospice.

Mark will be missed by many, but he will never be forgotten. He is unforgettable.
