Mrs. O’Donnell was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Anderson and Launa C. Pittman. She has been a resident of Long Beach, Mississippi for 50 years. She was a 1943 graduate of West Palm Beach, High School in West Palm Beach, Florida. She retired from South Central Bell after 25 years of service where she was a telephone Pioneer. Mrs. O’Donnell was an active and faithful member of First Baptist Church in Long Beach. She loved the Lord as well as her church family, and her Willing Workers Sunday School class. She also volunteered at the polls in Long Beach for over 10 years. Mrs. O’Donnell was instrumental in establishing the Long Beach Food Pantry and acted as the Treasurer for over 20 years. She loved hosting taco parties and banana split parties in her home with all of her friends. She loved people and was happiest when helping others. She continuously put others needs before her own displaying selfless acts of kindness always. She had a true servants heart.
She was preceded in death by her faithful and devoted husband of 54 years John Thomas O’Donnell, her mother Launa C. Pittman, her father Anderson Pittman and her sister Kaye Connell, her brother in law Donald Connell and her nephew Douglas Connell.
Survivors include her four children Thomas O’Donnell of Riverview, FL, James O’Donnell of Long Beach, MS, Tricia (Richard) Rogers of Gulfport, MS, Debra Wenger of Long Beach, MS, her brother Charles (Diana) Pittman of Tampa, FL her two Grandchildren that gave her the nickname “Punkin” Tammy Wages of Gulfport, MS and Brian (Nikki) Verdigets of Pass Christian, two other Grandchildren Shelley O’Donnell and Natalie O’Donnell, five Great Grandchildren Reith Gibson of Ocean Springs MS, Kaylee Molino of Gulfport MS, Logan Verdigets, Raegan Verdigets, and Morgan Verdigets of Pass Christian, MS. A host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Last but not least her 2 year old Golden Retriever namesake “Punkin” that never left her side.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Humane Society of South Mississippi at 2615 25th Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501 or to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Pallbearers are her sons James O’Donnell, Thomas O’Donnell, her brother Charles Pittman, her son in law Richard Rogers, her Grandson Brian Verdigets and her Great Grandson Reith Gibson.
Visitation is Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 9:30 am to 11:15 am with the service at 11:15 am. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
