Mary Palmer Holem, age 81, passed away peacefully at home October 21, 2016.
Mary was born on August 22, 1935 in Starkville, Mississippi and graduated from Vigor High School in Mobile, Alabama. She won the Children's Choice Award at the Ocean Springs Art Festival. She also won a Faulkner Award for short stories. She was locally known as the "frog lady" for whimsical paintings of tree frogs. She worked 25 years for Sadler, Ranson, Bordis. She loved her family, home, church, and dogs. Mary was very active in her church and community.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie B. and Cleo Palmer; her husband, Richard Holem; and a sister, Lin Holmes.
Mary's survivors include daughters, Kim (Michael) Sturgill and Kelcey (Richie) Gollott; sister, Charlotte Roper; grandchildren, Jennifer (Bradley) Townsend, Patrick Sturgill, Jacob Gollott, and Grant Gollott; great-grandson, Noah Townsend; and dog, Rambo.
Services will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. John's Episcopal Church. Friends may visit 30 minutes before the service.
