Ocean Springs

With deep sorrow and heartfelt gratitude for a beautifully lived life, we announce the passing of Mary Marr Dunlop Beckman, age 88, at her home in Ocean Springs leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and unwavering service to others.

Born in Clarksville, Tennessee on February 12, 1938, Mary Marr shone brightly from an early age. Her warmth, kindness, and natural gift for nurturing others were evident to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She lived not for personal recognition, but for the betterment of her family, her students, and her community.

Mary Marr graduated from Clarksville High School and attended Randolph- Macon Woman’s College before continuing her studies at Vanderbilt University, where she was a proud member of the Chi Omega Sorority. While working at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, she met the love of her life, Cliff Beckman. They made their home in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Where Cliff established his dental practice and together, they built a life rooted in faith, family and community.

A devoted educator for more than thirty years, Mary Marr shaped countless young lives in the Harrison and Jackson County School Districts. She was honored as a Hall of Masters teacher and held certification in gifted education. Her influence reached far beyond textbooks and lesson plans- she instilled in her students a love of learning, resilience in the face of challenge, and the importance of kindness and integrity. To many, she was more than a teacher; she was lifelong mentor and inspiration.

Mary Marr was a realtor for over forty years and served on the Board of Realtor’s Code of ethics and banquet committee. She was awarded several awards, one being the Wally Page Award. She also had löwchen show dogs.

Her dedication extended well beyond the classroom; she served on the Ocean Springs Planning Commission and was a board member and volunteer of the year for the Ocean Springs Boys and Girls Club. She was honored as a Keesler Honorary Commander and remained a life member of Junior Auxiliary. Her civic involvement reflected her deep belief that strong communities are built through service and shared responsibility.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, generous heart, and steadfast commitment to making the world around her better. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched- as wife, mother, realtor, educator, mentor, and friend.

Mary Marr’s passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her. Though she is no longer with us, her strength, wisdom, and unwavering love will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends. She lived with grace, compassion, and a deep devotion to her community- a legacy that will endure for generations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton L. Beckman; and her sister, Nelle Hall.
