Mary Virginia Morrison

Mary Virginia Morrison “Oopie” was born on February 9, 1946 in New Orleans, LA. She found her eternal peace on Monday, April 8, 2024.

Mary began her early education at St. Thomas Elementary, graduating from High School at St. Joseph Academy in Bay St. Louis in 1964. After graduating in 1968 from Loyola University in New Orleans, Mary joined Vista, the domestic version of The Peace Corps. Her aspiration to help others lead her to Jeff Davis Nursing School in Harrison County where she received her RN degree. Mary got her Masters in Pastoral Studies from Loyola. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach, MS.

Besides her continual care for the wellbeing of family and friends, Mary enjoyed traveling, increasing her knowledge and understanding of the Bible with her Bible studies group, entertaining with food and drinks, including card games and dominoes. Mary loved to interact with her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews through visits, phone calls, or letters, but her favorite activity was shopping with her older sister.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Stanley Morrison, Sr. and Claire Boggs Morrison and her sister, Claire Florette Homes.

She is survived by two brothers, Robert Stanley Morrison, Jr. (Sandy) and William Edward Morrison, Sr. (Jeannette); three sisters, Claire Josephine Tuepker (John), Anaise Cecilia Beany (Chuck), and Martha Elizabeth Gipson; 5 nieces; 8 nephews; 7 great-nieces; and 8 great-nephews.

Mary’s struggles with anxiety and depression throughout her life never diminished her enduring faith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 720 Beach Blvd. E, Long Beach, MS 39560. Friends may visit one-hour prior to Mass. Interment will be in the Long Beach Cemetery.
