Mayla Comeaux

Mayla Kelly Friebele Comeaux, 74, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026. She was born in San Angelo, Texas, to John Friebele and Loucile Friebele. She shared 52 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Jim Comeaux. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and enduring love.

Mayla was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her children, Kate and Daniel, taking great pride in their lives and accomplishments. She also loved her daughter-in-law, Andrea, and was overjoyed to become a grandmother to Luke Beltran Comeaux, a role she had long anticipated and treasured.

For many years, Mayla worked as an interpreter for the Deaf, a community that held a special place in her heart. She was also wonderfully creative and enjoyed painting, playing guitar, singing, listening to music, and crocheting. Throughout her life, she was blessed with a close circle of friends whom she loved and cherished. Above all, Mayla was a woman of deep Christian faith. Her relationship with the Lord was central to her life. She was passionate about studying the Bible and seeking to understand God’s Word. Her faith sustained her throughout the challenges she faced. Mayla often used the phrase “forging ahead.” These words beautifully reflected the way she approached her life. Despite difficult circumstances, she continued to move forward with faith, perseverance, humor, and love, focusing on the people and things she treasured the most.

Mayla was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Friebele and Loucile Jerome Kelly Friebele, as well as her brothers, James “Jimmy” Friebele and Leary Friebele.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, James Duncan “Jim” Comeaux; her daughter, Kate Loucile Hurley; her son, Daniel James Comeaux; her daughter-in-law, Andrea Beltran Landers; and her cherished grandson, Luke Beltran Comeaux.

A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Monday, September 21, 2026 at Biloxi National Cemetery.

Mayla leaves behind a family and community who loved her dearly and will carry forward with the faith, love, creativity, and strength that characterized her life.
