Monte Barrett Savage, 62, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away at his home Monday, December 7th, 2015. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 26th, 1953, to Curtis Sam "Jimmy" and Mildred Savage. He was a devoted Father and Grandfather. He attended Gulfport High School, San Marcos Military Academy in San Marcos, TX, and St. Stanislaus Catholic School in Bay St. Louis, MS. He later opened Big Brake Safety Centers of MS with his father. Monte was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Gulfport, MS and served as an acolyte for several years during his youth. He enjoyed racing drag cars and won many awards racing his own 1968 Chevy Chevelle. Monte was an avid fan of Nascar and Ole Miss football. As a young man he attended Ole Miss football games regularly and enjoyed traveling with his family. Monte was very generous and had a compassionate heart donating to the Humane Society of South Mississippi and the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
He was survived in death by his daughters, Jessica Savage and Nicole Savage McCool, son-in-law Jimmy McCool; four grandchildren, Eden Bella Jones, Cooper McCool, Landon McCool and Harper McCool; his sister and brother-in-law DeAnn and Gerald Viator.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Curtis Sam "Jimmy" and Mildred Savage, and his nephew, Chandler Viator.
A private ceremony will be held for the family at the cemetery. For any friends who would like to attend, there will be a service to celebrate his life by the spreading of his ashes at Gulfport Dragway, Inc. Sunday, December 20th at 1:30 pm at 17085 Racetrack Rd, Gulfport, MS 39503
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests memorials be sent to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501, St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or a charity of their choice.
