Nancy Elizabeth Pujol Edwards

Nancy Elizabeth Pujol Edwards passed away on Sunday, January 23rd, 2022, at the age of 73, after several years of struggle with dementia. She was a native of Gretna, Louisiana, but had been a long-time resident of Ocean Springs. She graduated from the University of South Alabama in 1986 with a degree in Physical Therapy. Nancy was a well-respected physical therapist at Ocean Springs Hospital and helped countless patients with her skills in healing. She was also the head of the Physical Therapy Department for the Biloxi/Gulfport VA Hospital. The health of our United States Veterans was extremely important to her, and her contributions to their well-being were lauded at the time of her retirement in 2009.

Nancy enjoyed gardening, serving multiple terms on the Board of the Ocean Springs Garden Club. She was active in her church, Christus Victor Lutheran Church, and was a member of WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America). Nancy was multi-talented, writing for multiple newspapers, including serving as Editor for The Vanguard at the University of South Alabama from 1984 to 1985. Nancy was also a talented painter and passed her love of the beauty found in nature to her two children.

Nancy loved to fish, once reeling in a 33 inch long, 14-pound striped bass from the waters of Fort Bayou. She enjoyed playing with her treasured dog, Nathan, cooking meals, and watching football with her best friend and husband, Pat. Nancy had an enormous smile and a joyous laugh that could fill a room, frequently falling into fits of laughter with her children and grandchildren. Nancy was a wonderful wife, a patient mother, and a loyal friend to many. She was a kind, funny, beautiful, compassionate, intelligent, and modest woman whom her family and friends will forever miss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward S. Pujol, Sr., and Vera Scheffler Pujol Bladsacker; her brothers, Edward S. Pujol, Jr. and Daniel H. Pujol; her godson, Torrey C. Hawkins; and her beloved dog, Highwater.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Patrick J. Edwards; her children, Connie Toncrey Williams (Luis) and Ronnie A. “Tony” Toncrey, Jr. (Angela); her sister, Catherine Pujol Sapia; granddaughters, Emily Hill Williams and Serling Paige Toncrey; Godchildren, Timothy J. Sapia, Sr., Lindsey R. McQueeney, and William H. Cross.

The family would like to thank Crystal’s Place for the care and compassion they showed her during such difficult times. A memorial service will be held for Nancy at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 3rd, 2022, at Christus Victor Lutheran Church 2755 Bienville Blvd, Ocean Springs, MS 39564.
