Nona Peterson Whitman

Nona Peterson Whitman, age 80, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019 at her home in Slidell, LA surrounded by her family. Mrs. Whitman was born on April 4, 1938 in Moss Point, MS to Hazel Agnes Schaub Wilson and Robert Charles Peterson. She attended Our Lady of Victory (OLV) and Mississippi State College for Women. Mrs. Whitman worked as a nursing home administrator, a real estate broker, and finished her career as office manager at Tulane’s Department of Child Psychiatry. After retiring, Nona and her husband, Jerry, enjoyed travelling and spending time with their children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and many close friends. She was predeceased by her older brother, Charles Peterson. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Whitman; three daughters, Marcy Haydel (Rod Brown), Micelle Haydel (Dan Sanders) and Leah Haydel; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her brother, Stanley Peterson; and her sister, Kim Daum. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs, MS on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10:30 am. The family will receive visitors starting at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Ocean Springs. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
