Pe Hang Choung

Pe Hang Choung, 63, of Gulfport, MS passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026 in Ocean Springs.

Pe Hang was born on January 27, 1963, in Qing Xi, Guang Dong, China, to Zhang Yuming and Yang Yu Yun. He moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where he lived for the past 25 years.

Although he had no formal education, Pe Hang was a hardworking man who learned through experience and from "You Tube University and the School of Life." He was an entrepreneur who opened his first restaurant in West Point, MS, then another in Pascagoula, before building and owning Choung's Garden in Gulfport. He also owned a small used car dealership and ventured into real estate while continuing to operate his restaurant.

Pe Hang enjoyed fishing, crabbing, cooking, gardening, traveling, taking walks on the beach, shopping at grocery stores and farmers' markets, finding a good bargain, and spending time with family over a good meal.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Choung; his daughters, Cathy Choung and her husband, Jorge Javier Castillo, and Cerina Choung; his beloved pet child, Cash; his pet grandchild, Luna; and his siblings, Pik Hong and Shelly Watkins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rogin Subedi and the nurses at Singing River Hospital for the kindness and care they gave Pe Hang.

A funeral service will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 11:00 am. Family visitation will be from 9:00 am until 10:00 am, with friends invited to visit from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A reception will follow at 12:45 pm at Panda Palace in Biloxi.
