Peter Gregory “Pete” McCabe, age 66, of Saucier, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Pete was the son of the late Thomas Patrick McCabe, Jr. and Elizabeth Ann McCabe. He was a dedicated lifelong learner and patriot who earned his associate’s degree while serving his country.
Pete’s commitment to his country spanned thirty-six years. He served six years in the U.S. Army followed by thirty years in the Army National Guard. A veteran of several foreign conflicts, he deployed to Iraq, Kosovo, and Bosnia. Throughout his storied career, he earned numerous commendations, including three Army Commendation Medals (ARCOM), the Iraq Campaign Medal, the NATO Medal, and three Texas Faithful Service Awards. He retired at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2 (CWO-2), a testament to his leadership and technical expertise.
Beyond his military achievements, Pete was a man of many passions. He was an accomplished woodworker and gardener, and a fervent supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Known for his hospitality, he was famous for his "legendary" homemade strawberry ice cream and blueberry cheesecake. He cherished the simple joys of life—sharing a drink and a cigar with his nephews, enjoying the company of friends, and spending time with his trusty sidekick, Cooter.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom McCabe III.
His memory will be cherished by his children, Josh (Kaitlyn) McCabe and Alyssa (Mark) Vernon; his grandchildren, Kayleigh McCabe and Vincent Vernon; and his great-grandchild, Colson Allen Dye. He is also survived by his siblings: Mike (Cindy) McCabe, Elizabeth (Bruce) Darrah, Joe McCabe, Kathy Green, Theresa (Jim) Little; his sister-in-law, Theresa McCabe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, April 10, 2026, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the O’Neal Road location of Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. There will be a graveside service at Biloxi National Cemetery on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 2:30 p.m.
