Phillip Weatherford, 80, of D ’Iberville, MS, passed away at his residence surrounded by family members on Saturday, June 15, 2024.
Phillip was born September 14, 1943, in Prentiss, MS, and later relocated with his family to Petal. Upon graduating high school, he joined the United States Navy, proudly serving as an Electricians Mate. He answered the call once again when he joined the Gulfport Police Department, quickly rising through the ranks making Detective. The 20-year veteran remained with the Department until his retirement in 2006. Mr. Weatherford was an avid sportsman who enjoyed pool, darts, and fishing off Chandelier Island. His love for family and country never faltered.
Phillip is preceded in death by his parents, Emmitt and Redus; brother Truitt; sisters, Floy Mimms and Eloise Hardee; in-laws, Jacob and MaryEllen Douthit; and brother-in-law, Dwight Douthit.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Debbie; brother, Ford (Eunice); sister, Charlotte (Ray) Clark; sister-in-law, Dara Merkinson; children, Scott (Debra) and Jeff (Romy); stepson, Sean (Janice) Smith; stepdaughter, Dena (Chris) Gambler; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren.
Our family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful healthcare providers at Ocean Springs Hospital and Saad Hospice.
Visitation for friends and family will be Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue in Biloxi, MS. No services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mississippi Police Benevolent Association or the Wounded Warrior Project.
